Transportation
Professional, the monthly magazine of the Institution of Highways &
Transportation (IHT), is produced on behalf of the Institution by Barrett,
Byrd Associates. We write the editorial material, sell the advertising, make
up the magazines pages and then manage its printing and distribution.
Size varies between 32 and 40 pages; and it circulates to over 13,000 readers.
IHT had formerly produced its journal H&T in house, with advertising sales conducted by an outside agency. The Institution wanted to upgrade its publication in terms of look, breadth of content and commercial performance, and set about finding an external contractor. It was looking for quality and cost effectiveness.
An editorial brief was prepared and submissions invited from various publishing houses. The proposal from Barrett, Byrd Associates was provisionally accepted, refined by the company in consultation with the Institution and then put into effect in June 2002. The result was Transportation Professional, a magazine of high editorial and commercial quality greatly appreciated by its readers, the members of IHT.
